You may not of known this, but Lakeland Farm And Ranch Direct, a division of Lakeland Group carries a full range of horse and cattle corral panels and gates. Sometimes we help groups and organizations plan out and set up their corrals. Just recently, we had the privilege of helping out the Assiniboine Park Zoo set up the corral for their brand new McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre!

THE MCFEETORS HEAVY HORSE CENTRE IS NOW OPEN!

Located in the north area of the Zoo, the McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre covers 4.7 acres and will be home to four Percheron horses year-round and includes a barn, pastures, paddocks and a carriage shed. Visitors to the Zoo will have the opportunity to experience barn tours and learn about the pioneer era of our province’s history, when heavy horse power was relied on in industries such as agriculture, forestry, mining, and road construction.

Wagon rides are currently offered from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on weekends only at a cost of $3.00 per person.

The McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre is named in recognition of former Great-West Lifeco CEO and Chairman Ray McFeetors, whose personal donation of $2 million was the catalyst for the project. Great-West Life has pledged an additional $250,000 to name the Great-West Life Paddock within the McFeetors Heavy Horse Centre. The large outdoor paddock area consists of three spacious holding areas where visitors can view the horses.
